How to Update Your Google Workspace Profile Picture

Your profile photo is often one of the first things clients, colleagues, and contacts see when they receive an email from you. A professional, up to date image helps create trust, strengthen your brand, and keep your online presence consistent.

If your business email is connected through Google Workspace, your profile picture is managed through Google, even if your website is hosted on Squarespace.

Option 1: Update the Photo Through the Google Admin Console

If you are the administrator for your Google Workspace account, you can update a user's profile photo directly.

Steps to Update a Profile Picture

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin Console at admin.google.com.

  2. From the left menu, click Directory and then Users.

  3. Select the user account that needs the photo updated.

  4. Click the current profile avatar.

  5. Choose Change Photo.

  6. Upload your new image and save your changes.

The updated photo will begin syncing across Google services, including Gmail, Google Meet, and Google Calendar.

Option 2: Allow Users to Manage Their Own Profile Photos

If you have multiple users on your Google Workspace account, you may prefer to allow each person to update their own profile picture.

How to Enable User Profile Editing

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin Console.

  2. Navigate to Directory and then Users.

  3. Click the More Options menu (three dots).

  4. Select Profile Editing.

  5. Check the box next to Photo.

  6. Click Save.

Once enabled, users can sign into their own Google account and update their profile picture without administrator assistance.

Tips for the Best Results

Use a High Quality Image

Choose a clear, professional photo that represents your brand. A square image typically works best.

Allow Time for Changes to Sync

Profile photo updates may take several hours to appear across all Google services.

Still Seeing the Old Photo?

If your previous image continues to appear:

  • Sign out and back into your Google account.

  • Clear your browser cache.

  • Wait a few additional hours for Google's systems to fully update.
